作为3D打印人工椎体研究团队的负责人，刘忠军综合研究了袁先生的病情后，决定为他植入人工椎体。“我们利用金属3D打印技术，依照患者的解剖结构，制造出与他5节脊椎形态与长度相仿的人工椎体。”刘忠军介绍，人工椎体的特殊之处在于能被制成海绵状的微孔结构，类似人体骨头中的骨小梁。有了这种“骨小梁”，相邻正常脊椎的骨细胞可以长入其中，最终实现骨融合。
